Supervisor Dr. Joe Shirley, Jr.
Mission Statement:
Safely proving quality services through alliances, sustainability and accountability while preserving our culture, values, resources and the environment for all citizens of Apache County.
The Honorable, Dr. Joe Shirley, Jr. is presently serving his sixth four year term.  His inspirational journey includes his distinguished leadership and experiences with the Chinle Agency Division of Social Services, Chinle Chapter Council Delegate, Apache County District One Board of Supervisor and the former Navajo Nation President.
Dr. Shirley’s scholastic achievements include his graduation from Chinle High School in 1966, earned an Associate of Arts Degree in 1968 from Magic Valley Christian College in Idaho, a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1973 from Abilene Christian University in Texas, and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Arizona State University.  In December 2005, he was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Northern Arizona University in recognition for his 37 years of meritorious public services to the Navajo people.
In the age of cultural change, with the economic adversity and technology innovations, he advocates for the importance of quality education and safe mobility of school bus routes for the future generation of scholars by initiating partnership and collaborations for improvement resources.
Dr. Shirley is married to Vikki Shirley of Lukachukai, Az.  They have six children and enjoys reading books, jogging and country-western dancing with his wife Vikki and playing basketball with his children.
