Detention Officers

Starting Salary: $26,603

Typical Duties: Observes, controls and supervises inmate activities; maintains detention records, process inmate bookings and releases, distributes and collects inmate mail; maintains the safety and physical security of the facility and personnel; physically escorts inmate to outside facilities by vehicle or on foot; supervises visitation; performs physical search of inmates and facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have high school diploma/GED
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a valid drivers license
Must pass a background check including NCIC
Will be fingerprinted and submit to a urinalysis
Shift work required

Tower Operator

Starting Salary: $21,835

Detention Tower Operator Job Duties (not inclusive)

  1. Ability to work rotating shifts (Days & Graveyards)
  2. Ability to make log entries into Jail Management System (JMS), of Officer and inmates activities utilizing computer keyboard and monitor.
  3. Maintain an accurate pass down log for your assigned shift.
  4. Monitor inmate’s activities; detect possible conflicts among inmates by monitoring security monitors and direct supervision from the control tower.
  5. Communicate effectively with Officers utilizing radios to facilitate movement throughout the facility; with inmates via intercom and with other agencies, courts, attorneys, other county departments and the public utilizing the telephone and intercom from the front lobby in a courteous and professional manner, regardless of caller’s quarrelsome/vulgar etiquette.
  6. Scan incoming and outgoing mail in compliance with ACSO Jail policy. Log all inbound and outbound mail into JMS under inmate’s activity logs.
  7. File court minute entries; warrants, detainers, movement orders into inmates file. Log all entries in inmates file into file log.
  8. Update court location, dates, time and bond information for inmates initialed by the Initial Appearance Master.
  9. Operate various office equipment including; fax machine; copy machine; desktop computers; paper shredders; telephone effectively and efficiently.
  10. Be able to operate a touch screen monitor for facility operations.
  11. Ability to silence facility fire alarm and quickly and efficiently report location of trouble to Officers.
  12. Be able to distinguish inmate custody levels (maximum, medium, minimum, male, female, protective custody, administrative segregation, disciplinary segregation and special needs inmates by uniform recognition and housing location.
  13. Draft maintenance repair orders as directed by Detention staff.
  14. Ability to perform pat searches of inmates of the same gender as directed by detention staff in accordance with ACSO Jail policy.
  15. Assist staff of the same gender with strip search of same sex inmates as directed by jail policy and procedure.
  16. Ability to multitask (answering phone, listening to radio traffic and responding, maintaining accurate JMS activity log.
  17. Participate in weekly defensive tactics training/drills
