ACSO Jail Education Program
The Apache County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Adult Jail through an intergovernmental agreement with the Apache County Superintendent of Schools Office offers GED classes for detainees.
The ACSO Jail also offers special education and related services for adults younger than 22 years, who do not have a high school diploma, and who wish to complete their high school education or GED. Each individual who qualifies for special education services has an IEP (Individual Education Plan). The IEP addresses the academic, post-secondary and transition needs of the student, with an emphasis on re-integration into the community.
Re-entry support services are provided to all students. And referrals are made to link individuals to such opportunities as higher education, job, housing, military, and social services. Information is provided to help plan and move toward these goals, and to assist with re-integration into the community.
Another education service officered by the ACSO Jail is education intervention referrals for infants or school age children of inmates to the Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) or to the child’s home school district.
