K9 Unit

The Apache County Sheriff's Office has a canine unit which consists of three handlers and their service K9 partners. These deputies have various duties within the agency range from the drug task force to patrol and detention.

The handlers are all AZ POST certified peace officers and each dog is certified in narcotics detection and handler protection. The three train regularly with other handlers from the local area in order to keep their skills sharp. They respond regularly at the request of other law enforcement agencies, work with the Apache County Cooperative Enforcement Narcotics Task force (ACCENT), as well as engaging in patrol duties in both marked and unmarked vehicles.

Over the last several years a number of large seizures have been made by these deputies and their partners. These deputies also participate in educational programs at local schools, multi-agency operations during high visibility periods, and in contraband sweeps in the jail.
