Budget Process

District III Supervisor, R. John Lee extends his gratitude to all the employees of Apache County and the residents who have been supportive during his time in office. Since the voters of Apache County have turned down a budget override and a bond issue that would have made our fiscal management easier, I am committed to carry out the will of the people in making necessary adjustments including cuts in employment to balance our budget. I hope the people will be understanding in this difficult time.

Supervisor Lee has been involved in the budget process which will not only affect the employees of Apache County but also entities such as our senior centers and chapter houses within our district. The upcoming budget cuts will be some of the largest in our history.

The Board of Supervisors sits as the Board of Adjustment for property tax appeals which were at a record level this year. A vast majority of those appeals were granted as I believe that upward adjustment of valuations in a falling real estate market are unwarranted and unfair.

I have worked closely with the Apache County Liaison of the Forest Service to protect public access to our national forests. I will continue to protect the rights of the public to enjoy our public lands.

I ask for understanding as we carry out the will of the voters in the next two budget years. We still strive to maintain the level of county government services to our people within our budget.
